Just spotted whilst browing tv guide- 'Cold War-Hot Jets' .Maybe a repeat, bit I'm not sure.Might be worth a look. :) EricT

It's a repeat and has been on a number of times already over the last year or so. I'm sure it will be back!

A very interesting program.
I hadn't realised that at the time the Americans were trying to block export sales of the Comet 1, supposedly to prevent technology falling into Soviet hands. The export sales went ahead anyway, then the aircraft suffered the well known series of accidents that put it out of service.
One for the conspiracy theorists there.

I can't imagine what the Russians would have needed. The traitorous Stafford Cripps had already given the Russians the RR Nene which they promptly reverse engineered and put in the Mig 15

Exactly!

My point was that the US may have used the threat of technology falling into Soviet hands, as a means to try and kill off the Comet. Obviously, this was a one off and they have never tried to undermine any other UK/European project such as Concorde or Airbus ;)
