Blimey chaps, you wait 2000 years for a Holy Grail and two turn up in the same week.

Earth to the moon in four hours ? Ryanair will be onto that. Anyway, it's fascinating, and I hope its it doesn't turn out like Fleischmann and Pons' cold fusion 'discovery'.

Inertia, can you imagine the G forces in such an acceleration? Wish I had the math to calculate it by I'm betting your innards would become your outards tout suite. *-)

May I suggest having a gander at Mike's avatar as a graphic illustration?

At risk of showing my complete ignorance but if you put 2 magnets together negative to negative then they try to move away from each other equally, if two very large spindles are magnatised and drawn together then they would start spinning against each other, one way of generating future electricity at power stations? *-)

Would not like to end up looking like Mike's avatar. :worried:

Nigel.

This is fascinating indeed.
So many things were thought impossible, which have since become daily life.

Dick Tracey used to impossibly talk into his watch; these days I am still often momentarily confounded by folks speaking behind me in a shop queue - then I spot the ear-bud and little wire disappearing down their shirt.
And remember how you'd burn your knuckles doing toast on a fork in front of the open fire? Now you can burn your toast with an electric toaster. The list is endless.

That reminds me,... I saw a story tonight on TV about - what not to buy for your kid for college,

An electric cloths iron , why? because they'll probably just use it to make grilled cheese samitches  ....If at All!
..............

I've never thought of that actually *-) ... maybe I'll dig out the iron from the cupboard..

"...until something fails or wears down, theoretically the engine could keep running forever..."

Doesn't that apply to everything ever built?

No sorry, Art. That would contravene the law of Conservation of Energy - Energy can neither be created nor destroyed, only converted. In other words, no system without an external energy supply can deliver an unlimited amount of energy to its surroundings. Eventually, all of the energy in the universe would be used up (most likely converted to heat).
As such, perpetual motion is impossible.

Kevin
