Brian,
You may be surprised (or perhaps not) to hear that when that photo was first published about 5 years ago it attracted some adverse comments along the lines of, "unprofessional" and even "endangering the safety of the aircraft"! Fortunately, the RAF/MoD saw the funny side and laughed it off as a "light-hearted moment" which of course it was.

My favourite of this type of photo is this one taken somewhere around 1989 I think.

I've been asked several times to recreate this in our Lightning simulator but I don't have the skill. Maybe someone on the forum would like to have a go?

Pete

Peter,
Having lived in the low fly zone of mid Wales & being on the lee side of a hill, one does jump somewhat when a jet roars over you from the summit at about 100 ft or less. Jaguars were by far the worst noisemakers at the time!
Been guilty of waking the neighbours ( & those en route from Craven Arms up to Lake Vyrnwy, then down to Welshpool) once when given a chance to a RH seat in a Hunter T7 from Farnboro & taking a couple of photos of our house!

Hi Pete :hello:
Do you know the lat/long location of this offensive roof graffiti? ;)
Please remind me whether you're on FSX or P3D.

G'day Mike,
Now that sounds like a very kind offer of help to me which I'm delighted to accept.

A few things:
  • At the moment, the Lightning sim is running on P3D v1.4 which for our purpose is FSX
Although I'm happy with the original text, it will be on public view so it might be better to change it to "PUSH OFF BIGGLES"
The location of the original is in North Wales but I wanted to relocate it to somewhere in our Local Flying Area, possibly one of the turning points in the circuit. Can you give me a day or so to fly around and find the best location?
Thanks again.
Pete

G'day Pete,
No worries, look forward to the task.
A screen shot of the chosen location (looking straight down, and quite close) would help, as well as the most accurate co-ordinates you can give.

According to http://www.targeta.co.uk/wheretogo.htm it's near to Bala lake.

Thanks, Grumpy & George. ;)
That fits in with the Bala exit from the loop. Took a skim along that route in Google Earth, but didn't spot the sign yet. As it was 1986 vintage, it may well have been demolished or repainted by now, so may not show.
There was a feature that I came across last year, where GE let you see historical satellite images, which I'm not finding tonight.
EDIT: It's in GE Pro, and I managed to "go back" to 2006, sadly still found no trace of that roof. "Needle in a haystack" springs to mind. "Near Bala" is a vague location.
Bit of a moving target situation has developed....
Pete wants to add something similar to that 1989 photo, but not in the same location as the original, because his Lightning simulator flies in his local area. That's why I'm asking for his chosen location details. I don't think that he has Instant Scenery, so I'll have to try and place it based on co-ordinates. If I can see some existing buildings there, I'll try to base the mod. on them.
