Glad they kept out of the tip vortex, although it could have been a great confirmation (or otherwise) of the winglets efficiency if they had flown in front of the wingtips!

How did they manage that in the middle of a desert?

I regard it as yet another fairly obvious fake. Note where the smoke trail goes through behind the 380, towards the end - not a trace of wake

The sky really is like that in Dubai a lot of the time - it's not pollution so much as sand , which is ever present in the atmosphere

Nope, its not a fake! Its very, very real!
