Tim Peak....why the fuss?

Post by Trev Clark »

Am I missing something?

Despite sharing schools ( Chichester High School for boys, but he joined 7 years after I left!) with this guy, I dont get the fuss being made about going into orbit as the junior crewman on the ISS, orbitting is something done by astronauts from many counties ( 45 counties in all, including some you've not even heard of!) for 50 years.

Is it embarrassment in closing the native UK space programme (Black Arrow) almost 40 years ago, after just one satellite launch in 1971? Or is something bad being burried in the news today?

Well, it's not everyday you get a Brit going into space and for a change, we have an up-beat news story. :cpu:

Little else I can add really.

Helen Sharman went to MIR in 1991 24 years ago so it isn't a first as a lot of the press would have us believe. Still, good luck to him.

You're all wrong.I should point out that Norman Wisdom did it much earlier as Norman Puckle in 'The Bulldog Breed' in 1960/61. :wasntme: EricT.

Wasn't Sarah Brightman, the singer and ex-Mrs Lloyd Wbber, supposed to be going up at some point ?

They had a little trouble with the autopilot during the docking manoeuvre and had to go into "Manual" mode...I think they have managed to dock now but about 15 minutes late.

All the Best,

Roger.
