Cala Homes have acquired a site in Cranleigh, Surrey for the building of 125 new houses. In their Environmental Plan submission they have stated that they will encourage their contractors to get to the site via the Cranleigh Main Line railway station as it is only 1 mile from the site.

The one fly in the ointment is that Cranleigh Station and the branch line it was on closed in 1965!

The plan also says "The location is approx 23 miles from the M25 junction at Leatherhead and 10 miles from Guildford on the A281. As a result the site can be
accessed by the motorway network and major A roads
"

23 miles from a motorway via country lanes and the A road is about 5 miles away via country lanes.

What planet are they on?

Somebody else commented that it is a wonder they didn't highlight the possibility of international links via Dunsfold.

Developers do come up with some ridiculous planning statements. Recently there was a local one citing a new (medium sized) estate having excellent amenities: 3 pubs/bars, a swimming pool, 2 gyms, a coffee shop and a library, all within 5 minutes walk. The only thing it omitted was that all the above were behind the fence on a military base with no access to the general public!
