Parallel my eye!

In my first year of physics, we were told that the Sun is larger than the Earth, and it can be assumed that rays of light from the Sun are therefore parallel.
We drew a diagram to prive it.
Is this why I failed that subject.........?

No, it's because you couldn't spell 'prove' correctly Mike.

Where you're going wrong is that you're assuming the light is from the sun, when its actually from an alien spaceship.

Mike, your physics lecturer needs shooting, not to mention your English teacher...

Going into 'nerd' mode, it's all about perspective. In order for the sun to produce parallel light rays observed on Earth, it would have to fill the entire sky. Being 93 million miles away, it appears as a small disc.
Trust me, I'm a Scientist

Thanks everyone!
Roger, thank you, that was about 6pm yesterday at the front gate.
I think that the physics teacher died of old age a long time ago.
It wasn't the English teacher's fault, I spelt nearly every word wrongly, typing by the light of my screen. "prive" was missed in correction time.
Yes, Joe, he should explain himself. I thought that he was a music expert.
He can start out by telling us about Farnell's Law of ..............

Well,, Mike... If Kevin has enough brain cells to be a Scientist.. He probably has enough left over to know a thing or two about music... perhaps he even knows his way around the kitchen too and can make a bacon sandwich...
I love bacon sandwiches
