Exploring Alice...

I found the basic Alice Springs a bit uninteresting so I purchased a more detailed one to enjoy on my few days visit:-

Image
I also got an Orbx Traffic app and as you can see from these pictures...

Image
...Alice can be very interesting...I swapped my trusty steed for a control tower so you won't see my C47 after this pic.

Image
Alice has some nice small Boeings that...

Image
...pop in here on a daily service. There are also quite a lot of people around!

Image
This is an odd one...I forgot to turn off my machine and I found this as I was going to bed!

Image
The GA stuff tends to use this area and there seems to be a small flying club at the other side of the airfield.

Image
This is all very detailed.

Image
That hangar with the white lid is where the small flying club is based.

Image
The Tower has the usual rotating beacon on the roof.

Image
The yellow taxy markings are interesting and probably accurate...You couldn't dream that lot up!

Image
The viz is a bit hazy today...

Image
...over the desert.

Image
That big Qantas is a static display but there is a bloke there chucking suitcases onto a conveyor belt.

Image
Here comes someone to land on...

Image
...Runway 12.

Image
He is reverse thrusting and braking as he goes past.

Image
He is a QantasLink...Callsign "QUEUE Link"

Image
Watching him park...

Image
...from above.

Image
There are a few people there to watch him!

Image
They seem to be working on this loading thingy!

Image
More people wandering about here with a worker doing things with suitcases!

Image
Another group.

Image
Don't know what that building over there is...Some kind of Mart?

Image
Here I have latched onto a Cessna...

Image
...doing some...

Image
...Local flying.

Image
He gives us some...

Image
...great views of...

Image
...the surrounding area.

Image
Here he is...

Image
...positioning for...

Image
...his approach...

Image
...and landing.

Image
Just to finish off...

Image
...I latched onto this...

Image
...departing Qlink!

Thanks for watching...They all look best if clicked to Full Size :)

Wonderful add-on of Alice Springs you bought Peter and really enjoyed viewing those pictures you posted as there seems quite a lot of activity.

Just to thing that when I first started with FS it was only basic and scenery was (apart from areas such as Chicago and Meigs Field etc) very sparse and limited, now with Orbx and other add-ons there are now much better sceneries that make flying immersive and enjoyable.

By the way and just out of interest, when you flew professionally and taxied towards the runway or gate with an aircraft with centred nosewheel (not the Trident) did you use a reference point on the windscreen to maintain the centre line even on turns? as I always find myself either to the left or right of it when taxying!! *-)

Hope you enjoy the rest of your stay at Alice Springs before taking off on your next leg.

Regards
Nigel.

Hi Nigel...I was taught, in the Vanguard, to run the centreline under your inboard knee...So, in the captain's seat, your right knee.

A really cracking set of pictures! Excellent choice of scenery.

Looking forward to the Darwin leg and hoping that you fly with fair winds and enjoy soft landings.

Many thanks Peter, now I wonder whether that may work in FSX! *-)

Will have to try that out next time I fire it up and let you know.

Many thanks.

Nigel.
