Problem with Heron locked front wheel.

Hello fellow flightsimmers from here in Perth, Western Australia.
Nn matter how hard I try I cannot remove the front wheel lock from the Heron model I bought. In the VC I can see the lever just behind the removable yoke but when I move my mouse over it, the cursor does not change to a hand to move the lever, so I cannot steer this lovely old dear lady!!! All help gratefully appreciated, thank you. Autorudder selection does not work, I tried that!

Hello Walter, and welcome to the forum. :hello:
I assume the Heron model you are talking about is the Flight Replicas model as you state you bought it. That model has nothing to do with us, but maybe someone here who uses it may be able to help.

Hi Walter,

The frontwheel of the Heron is free castering but not steerable. You need to use differential braking and your engines to turn the plane.

Thank you, sir, the problem has been with me since I bought the aircraft. I believe that I now may regret asking this new question because it will likely show my ignorance of these types of aircraft but why was the Heron not designed like the Dove which is steerable?

I think you'll find that both types were the same (non-steerable castoring nose wheel) though they may be modelled differently for FS :cpu:

G'day Walter,
And welcome from me too. :hello:
I don't have a payware Heron either.
Did you read the above info. about the castoring nose wheel? Try differential brakes or engine revs.
Mrs Airspeed and I lived in Perth 1970. Loved it, but was promoted to a Sydney job. Didn't like that!

Hey, I'm trying to post here, you blokes, can't get a word in edgeways! Sorry, good morning, Dave :hello:

Hi Walter,

You could adjust the cgf-file. Check under contactpoints.

This is an example from the cfg-file of the Milton Shupe Tracker:

point.0 = 1.000, 14.087, 0.000, -7.868, 2950.000, 0.000, 1.050, 045.0, 0.200, 5.165, 0.800, 6.000, 6.000, 0.000, 150.000, 150.000 -- nose wheel steering
//for steearable nose gear, replace point.0 below with the one above; activate by removing the //'s
//point.0 = 1.000, 14.087, 0.000, -7.868, 2950.000, 0.000, 1.050, 180.0, 0.2000, 5.165, 0.800, 6.000, 6.000, 0.000, 150.000, 150.000 -- differential brake steering

Hi Walter,

Just got the time to test it:

Make a back-up of your aircraft.cfg file and then open the original one, search for contact_points and adjust the following: (just copy and paste into your cfg file overwriting the original data). she will be steerable now.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------->

[contact_points]
static_pitch = -0.0 //degrees (pitch when loaded on ground)
static_cg_height=5.87 //feet, altitude of CG when at rest on the ground
tailwheel_lock = 0
gear_system_type = 2
max_number_of_points = 13
emergency_extension_type = 2

point.0 = 1, 16.41, 0, -5.95, 1300.0, 0, 0.72, 45, 0.35, 1.5, 0.7, 7, 4, 0, 200, 220
point.1 = 1, -1.79, -8.33, -6.45, 1300.0, 1, 1.15, 0, 0.9, 1.55, 0.7, 7, 4, 2, 200, 220
point.2 = 1, -1.79, 8.33, -6.45, 1300.0, 2, 1.15, 0, 0.9, 1.55, 0.7, 7, 4, 3, 200, 220

point.3 = 2, 4.066, 8.33, -4.1169, 1574.8, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 5, 0, 0
point.4 = 2, 4.1186, -7.32, -4.1449, 1574.8, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 6, 0, 0
point.5 = 2, -4.0425, 7.32, -4.1064, 1574.8, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 9, 0, 0
point.6 = 2, -3.9904, -7.32, -4.1343, 1574.8, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 4, 0, 0
