Why is considered a three-attempt landing in your opinions? The first "approach" is a wheels up fly-over. Since this was the first flight to that particular airport they might just have been feeling the water. what kind of gust wind would be coming from where? In my opinion they made a good landing at the second attempt and I do believe that this story is a bit blown out of proportions.
