From the Lincolnite RAF Scampton is to host next years' airshow on September 9th and 10th though with the ticket price set at £39 with children under 16 free as long as they are accompanied by an adult paying the full fee.

Exactly what I thought Charlie. Don't think I will bother, I know the money goes to a well deserving cause to the RAF Benevolent Fund which should be supported but wonder if this increase will be used to subsidise the fact that they will be allowing those under 16 years of age in for free! :dunno:

If that is the case then I am not going so as to subsidise families who can bring their kids and get in for free. Full Stop! I feel that too much emphasis is placed on families these days at the expense of others.

Eek! Just had a look at their site and you can only book on-line there is also apart from the price of a ticket an Admin Fee of £2 if you later need to change your booking to add another person at a later date that will incur another £20.

Have I been out of the country too long?
This was copied from the advert:
......each featuring a five-hour flying display showcasing aircrafts from around the globe.

Are "aircrafts" knitting without needles & wool, basket making without cane, etc, like "air guitar playing"? :dunno:

Also, I think we've been globalised!
Convert 39quid to AU$, = 65, exactly the adult ticket to enter Airshows Downunder March 2017.
As an old fogey, I get to pay a mere $50, or 30quid, subject to a "handling fee" of $5.95 PLUS delivery.
I'll show them! I'll darned well go anyway, haven't been for years. Hope there aren't any aircrafts there, though! :worried: :worried:

Booking online is par for the course now Nigel, All to do with crowd management and that. And I suppose getting the money upfront
We used to go to RAF Cosford every year, its only just over an hour away, but stopped when you had to prebook. Gone are the days when you got up early on Sunday morning to check the weather out first before setting off. Then sitting in a queue for 2 hrs to pay at the gate  wouldn't be too surprised to still queue for 2 hrs though. wasn't bothered about paying for the kids, used to hide em under a blanket on the back seat

That's one very good point you made Dale, regarding booking in advance and the weather, I'd hate to pay good money only for the display to be either curtailed or limited due to low cloud and rain. When I used to go to Waddington Airshow I would look up the weather the day before and if Sunday was a better day then I would go.

Actually I agree with the under-16s free bit. Bring the kids and the parents will spend money on stuff inside. You also need to look at them as a large part of the target audience. They also need enthusing about "real stuff" in this day and age too.

The other view is that taken by Duxford, where they almost seem not to want kids to turn up. For that reason my kids have never been to Flying Legends for example, as it would cost nearly £75 for three of us to go, even though they are both very much still primary school aged.

As for pre-booking - I think it was Cosford 2013 or 2014 that started that being the norm. Epic weather so far too many people jumped in their cars to have a day out. Major gridlock ensued IIRC.
