JF Hunter Roll Out

The JF Hunter is now available to buy. I haven't got it because I'm still under the impression that I'm not going to buy anything else for P3D until we know where P3D is going. And I'm sticking to that thought... until I don't.

Not me. I took the chance on the AH/JF Hawk and BAC 1-11 and was very satisfied on both counts. What puts me off their Hunter is 1) there are only two marks available (the variety of variants is what appeals to me. There isn't even an FR10); and 2) their seeming refusal to engage (pun?!) with TacPack. In regards to the former DaveG's Hunter trumps everything else! Dave was also working on an upgrade with TacPack... but the skies have fallen silent... :poke:

I think Dave has had a 'cooling off' period with flightsim in general Andy. We all go through it every now and again.

I'd not want to second guess or pre-empt TP for Dave's Hunters. I know he had a fiddle (he likes fiddling) a while back and may have got something working but he probably never got it to a release state for one reason or another. I'm sure he'll pop in and comment ;)

:hello: As Dave has said, I'm not really simming much at the moment (not aircraft anyway). As regards TP-ing my Hunters, the bulk of the work is done with the exterior & coding but the VC stuff was being a pain. Whether it will ever get finished, I can't say at the moment, sorry.

The JF Hunter looks good to the untrained eye... ;)

And with that one comment any thoughts I might have entertained of buying the JF Hunter died a quick death

Yeah, I dont get it, Seems to be some kind of mantra that cos its payware its better than what can be had for free, I mean they even had a hunter pilot on beta team...just like DG.

Just for the record chaps - what are the issues with the JF Hunter? I'm still not buying stuff for P3D (honest) but sometimes these decisions just need a bit of reinforcement! :)

I bought it, here are my thoughts:
- Exterior models: Not bad but DG's are more accurate. There is lots of detail in the cockpit, the seat and pilot are very well done (it looks like the exterior model includes a duplicate of the interior model cockpit). The choice of loadouts is a bit basic, on the standard F.6 you can select all 4 external tanks or none, no option to strap only 2 of them on. However, the F.6 aerobatics model has a 2 tanks option.
- Interior model: Very nice, all essential systems are working. I love the engine start sequence and little details like the gun sight animation and canopy motor control (you can easily slide the canopy to any intermediate position you want).
- Textures: Very detailed, high resolution. It is matter of taste but the RAF camo colours are too bright for me. Also the specular mapping is very basic, one of the 1st things I did was replace the specular map for the exterior. One thing which struck me as odd is that there are dozens of redundant texture files in the package (which can be deleted of course).
- Flight characteristics: I am not a real pilot but comparing to other sim aircraft I think Paul Frimston who created the FDE did a very good job.
- Sound set: Sounds pretty good to me.
- Sim performance: Excellent frame rate / smoothness.
- Manual PDF: Very nice (as usual with JF).

Overall, I think it is worth the money, I do not regret buying it.
