DX10

Well, after a 4-year layoff I can safely say I have returned to FSX...countless things in real life got in the way but all seems to have settled now thank goodness. ;)

Anyway, I know that there have been loads of advances in models and utilities and I wondered if there is a fix for my little problem.

I do like to see the cabin framing shadows in the cockpit as seen here in a screenshot of DG's Auster, it adds tremendously to the realism. However, the DX10 preview button in FSX gives me the shadows but they are unfortunately quite 'ragged' :S Has there been a 'fix' to address this issue? I see some other screenshots in the gallery where the shadows are nicely defined, Image unlike mine.

The second question is when I have selected the DX10 preview, I lose my Nav Lights...a common problem I know but has this been addressed in my 4-year absence or can I only choose between Nav Lights or cockpit shadows. :dunno:

I am running FSX Gold on Windows 7 Professional 64bit with Direct X 11.0 my graphic card is GeForce GTX 580 and the driver is 347.52 any help would be much appreciated.

By the way...it's great to be back!

Regards

Brian

Hi Brian.
Have a look at "DX10 Scenery Fixer"
https://stevesfsxanalysis.wordpress.com ... -purchase/

It's payware, but well worth it if you use DX10. Despite its name it fixes aircraft issues too.

Thanks DaveG....I was wondering if it was due to a configuration setting I had not done as I have yet to 'fiddle' with filters and graphic card settings but looking on the net...you are right, it is an FSX issue and the only fix seems to be the payware link you posted. The author does state that 'it fixes issues but not all' so if anyone has this problem and this software fixed the VC shadows do tell before I get too excited. ;)

I used to use it before I went over to P3d. It's pretty much a "must have" if you're using DX10. I think the shadows are smoother but it's been quite a while since I used it, and it's been updated several times since then.
Hopefully a current user can add some input.

Well....I have fixed it :welldone: went hunting on the 'net and saw this http://www.lockonfiles.com/files/file/2 ... xers-v322/and had a go...remarkable difference, the shadows are such an improvement! It rebuilds the Shader General files and sorts out the problem! (I made a back-up first just in case!)

It has transformed the VC cockpit shadows and best of all it works!

Glad you got it working the way you like it.
FWIW, I have Steves fixer and find it very good. If, for example, an obscure FS9 planes is a bit broken visually in plain vanilla FSX, its usually twice as broken with DX10. The fixer fixes all of that, as well as making everything else just look so very much better. Chalk and cheese frankly. As its menu based you can just undo any changes that are not working for you if you don't like them (good for you, making backups, personally I wouldn't know were to start with that lol, especially with ORBX sitting on top of everything as well).
But then again it seems that everyones FSX is different and your mileage as they say...basically I don't regret the little it cost in the slightest and I'm glad I have it.
cheers
Jim

Ah, that's the original freeware mod. That was developed into the payware version I mentioned earlier. Didn't realise that enhanced the VC shadows as well.
Glad you're sorted.

Dave,

did you get any FPS performance increase with P3D over FSX?

Ted.

Hard to say really. I don't have FSX installed any more, but I think FSX DX10 performance was slightly higher than P3d, but P3d looked a lot better.

Does the fixer fix jagged runways and taxiways?
If it does I may try it as that's the main issue I had with DX10 preview.
Presumably there is a marked increase in quality with DX10?

- went ahead and purchased the fix. Awesome!
