Of note, the Union Pacific has fully upgraded their Diesel and Steam heritage units. This means adding Distributed Power controls and end of train telemetry units in addition to Positive Train Control computers. The DPU controls allow the leading locomotive to remotely control other locomotives that are not directly attached to the locomotive. On the steam locomotives, this also allows them to control diesel locomotives that are attached directly to the tenders as the steam locomotive does not have controls to be able to operate them directly via the Multiple Unit cables since they have continuous throttles instead of "notched" controls.

What a very elegant piece of kit .I don't remember seeing such a beautiful looking American locomotive before . A shame that they don't appear to be steaming it at the moment, or are my eyes deceiving me ?
