Thanks for posting that link Brian. What a superb record he's assembled with brilliant photos. It will be interesting to see if anyone on here has had any first hand experiences of any of these particular aircraft. Many thanks EricT

Yeah, great...I really enjoyed that too...I even checked to see if I flew his shuttle to Manchester, but I did not fly that day...I did operate the same flight on Feb 15th 1985

I'm glad everyone is enjoying the article. :) Loved seeing the Trident in Landor paint. And the author made out like a bandit with all of his Concorde goodies. "Back in the cabin I sweet-talked a stewardess into letting me take the china place setting with me." I'd like to see someone try that today. I was amazed to see that hot meals were served on flights lasting only one hour. I guess you had to eat pretty fast. Does anyone remember what meal service was like on BA back then?

Brian, not sure about BA but I remember in early 1993 on a 747-400 flight with Singapore Airlines from Heathrow to Singapore via Amsterdam, the cabin crew started to serve hot breakfasts shortly after take off from LHR. It seems that this first leg was going to be quicker than expected and no sooner was it served than the cabin crew were trying to chivvy you up to eat it so that they could prepare for landing. The term 'fast food' was quite appropriate! I didn't even expect food during that first leg but hey ho mustn't grumble. :) EricT

Wasn't a good week .....
Feb 8th '85 , Gla-Lhr . T3 G-AWZK , skipper Pete Cannon , other f/o Rich Craft [ only just retired ] . 1hr 35 mins [ 1.35 ] ...note in logbook '' low fuel warning '' ! Previous sector 1.05 .
Feb 9th '85 , Gla-Lhr . T3 G-AWZU , same crew . 2.40 , yes 2.40 .. note Boost eng u/s at t/o , failed to spool up at take off. I remember we had to sit on taxiway and burn off about 2 tonnes of fuel to get down to Boost off t/o weight . God knows wot the neighbours thought as we sat at Threshold of Rwy 05 with 3 Speys at 11,000 rpm + . [ we'd taken Gla - Lhr fuel + Prestwick div. fuel + 1 hrs holding fuel + regular reserves ]. Lhr wx was not hospitable ; Rwy 09R closed for snow clearing . Arrived at Bovingdon to hold , time ticked on , fuel gauges told their sorry tale , our expected approach time and our time to divert to Man co-incided . We were scheduled for Rwy 09L ; coming off the hold ATC broadcast '' 09L is closed , blocked with a stuck B757 , delay undetermined '' .
The Super 111 ahead of us downwind , to ATC '' Shuttle 7L [ ''Shuttle Semolina'' in Shuttle speak ] , we're turning right heading 340 , diverting to Man , FL70 '' .
ATC , '' maintain heading 250 and we'll organise div. ''
''Negative , Shuttle Semolina we're steering 340 , Fl 70 , CLEAR THE WAY , on course Man '' . !
Rapid requests of how long from Pete , and we just avoided the same fate , as the new , shiny 75 was dragged away in disgrace .
All logbook says is '' Hold , Snow , Blocked Rwy '' .
Turnaround back to Gla with a/c change to G-AWZN , 1.15 . logbook says V.V.late , snow and at Gla an E. wind , [a big] * then ''Thump'' . Skipper had given me the landing and it seems it was not one of my better ones .
Lovely photos , including the s/f/o in the cabin wearing a woolie pully and looking bemused [ knackered ] ; is I think Dave Millin , A good guy .
Another coincidence . Bashing the circuit today with a mate from our course at college prior to his renewal test of his PPL . He'd last flown a light a/c in 1974 . [ Passed his test this afternoon ] . Looked up logbook for this and see him as the other f/o on Feb 7th '85 G-AWZN Edi - Lhr , 1.10 !

Brgds dave f.
