If the cap fits....

You know how many military hats are held on with chin straps, whereas airline pilot caps have none?

The reason is that they tried linked metal loops on them, but the pilots were constantly distracted by:
"This is your cap-chain speaking." :wasntme:

Mike , nice one . But a bit off the mark factually !
BEA , gold coloured chinstrap .
BA , since '86ish leather chinstrap . Airworthy upto 70 kts , beyond that buttons holding it on fail . Top tip if you want a BA pilots cap ..................... Try the West coast of Norway , many a chinstrap failure in EGPB , Sumburgh , Shetland .
Last ''nooiform'' about 10 years ago , became smoke and mirrors . A fancy twisted rope lookalike chipstrap . Stiched to the cap , and thus could not be used ! Doh . Why have a cap that cannot be used on a cold , windy walkaround ?
'Fraid I tossed uniform standards in the bin , and replaced it with a proper leather job ! Worked ok in an Hong Kong typhoon walkaround .
easyJet , no cap , so 't Boi' uses a beany on cold windy walkarounds .

rgds dave f .

PS. Beginning to blow today , and going up to the field ; so flat cap held on with scarf !

That's something else I've learnt.
