Hi mate,

No effects at all, just bog standard X-Plane. I did think about using Re-shade but some of the screenshots I've seen appear too vivid and not true to life.

These are my graphics settings which give me anything from 25-40fps but mostly around the mid 30s.

Hi Chris, My thoughts exactly, I am still trying out different settings though as only running a NVidia GTX 760 Graphic Card and looking at your settings I doubt very much if I could match yours.

One setting I have at max is that of the number of World Objects though if flying from say Birmingham or London have to put it down to your setting. Gives more placement of buildings at max and when I have flown over Torquay there is a noticeable difference in what you see.

Going to have to either upgrade my computer or even buy a new one so I can run X Plane just that little bit better.

Regards
Nigel.

Don't forget, I'm running on a laptop.
My GTX1060 is a tad faster than your GTX760 but your processor is rated higher than my i7-7700HQ. I found it important to set the reflection detail to minimal as anything more provides little in the way of additional eye candy, but really has an impact on frame rates.

Sorry Chris I either forgot you were on a laptop or else I didn't know!!

I'm surprised about my processor being rated higher though but guess laptop cpu's differ from desktops. I do not have reflections on either as like to use what I can from the cpu.

This is the beauty of X Plane 11, Rendering Options are the graphics card and number of world objects are cpu based. Don't know if that applies to other platforms such as FSX or P3d but at least you can tune them to their capabilities. From your screenshot of settings I have now increased the rendering not as much as you have but enough to keep me happy.

Regards
Nigel.

The other thing was that there was now moving traffic and trains in the scenery.

What bothers me about this is that I installed the scenery "out of the box" with FTX Central. I don't fiddle with stuff in flight simulators as I don't know what I'm doing. Maybe I should tell the X-Plane folk about this as my disappointment after the install was huge. It looks like the installer needs a tweak as other folk might not have a great group like this to get help.

Many many thanks for your help Chris, it really improved my feelings about X-Plane. When the credit card recovers, I'm going to have that Piper too!

And another thing....

My brother-in-law lives in this street....

I think that's my fault, apologies. I may have mentioned that elsewhere and thought it was here... must be my age ;-)

Quite an interesting comparison on our processors here - https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/I ... 1019vs2311

I haven't run with a desktop for quite some years now as I prefer laptops overall, but that of course means I am limited with what I can have exactly. I think XP will only get better for us as the XP team refine and overhaul the coding with the aim of increased performance. B-)

Hi Chris, now that is an eye opener for me, however there is only a small difference overall between my cpu and yours' so the difference may only be a few fps hits between us. Many thanks for the comparison.
What bothers me about this is that I installed the scenery "out of the box" with FTX Central. I don't fiddle with stuff in flight simulators as I don't know what I'm doing. Maybe I should tell the X-Plane folk about this as my disappointment after the install was huge. Hi Paul, glad to see that you have got sorted out OK, the problem you faced is a problem others have had from reading on the Orbx Forum and that includes me, it is a FTX thing and hopefully they might sort it out before Central is released but if not and you do purchase it then just check the scenery order after first starting then shutting down X Plane.

I have noticed that from your screenshots some of the roads are not showing as they should, do you have Default Road Textures ticked in FTX Central? If so I would suggest that you change that to Transparent Road Textures through the Control Panel for True Earth Great Britain South which is by far a lot better with minimal fps hit, just click on the check box for Transparent Roads and you will see a noticeable difference.

Regards
Nigel.

+1 on on what Nigel said.

I can't help but wonder if some of the other bits you've got installed are perhaps causing some issues? It's quite a substantial scenery.ini list ;)

Well the culprit for all those libraries is EGNV (Teesside Airport*). Once I'd installed that, X-Plane just kept asking for library after library. So I found them and installed them. A bit naive perhaps?

I don't blame the designer/builder as he's done a great job and plainly used objects from a lot of places. I could take them out but then Teesside wouldn't look as good and it is my "home" airport.

I have seen a degradation in frame rates since True Earth so maybe EGNV has to go. I'll take it out and see what happens. I would have thought that since the simulator allows all these different object libraries there'd be some clever indexing system to keep performance up.

FWIW:
CPU Intel Core i7 4790 @ 3.60GHz
RAM 16.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 799MHz
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 3GB (NVIDIA)

Well I finally managed to download and install TE, a symlink worked perfectly so I could install it on a second drive. All I can say after a quick flight along the south coast (Shoreham to Lydd) is WOW!!!!

The piers and marinas are there, as are Birling gap and the Seven Sisters, and I can see mum's house in Bexhill. Amazingly it doesn't seem to have a frame rate impact either. I will certainly be buying the next two packs

TTFN

BTW, if you think Paul's ini file is big you don't want to see mine, it would take up a whole page :hide:
