Interesting design - someone took the YF-23 out of the closet, made a few changes, and called it a new airplane.

:agree: Chris,
I looked at the photo, and thought: "So that's what the UK is calling their order of the F-35."

Then I read on, and saw that this is the currently accepted shape of radar-dodging aircraft. OK, I accepted that.
Then I was somewhat surprised to read: "....ensuring the UK's continued leadership in fighter technology and control of air space in future combat: We have been a world leader in the combat air sector for a century...."
Is this the World's best-kept secret? :dunno:

We know that supermarkets start selling Christmas in September and Easter in January, so this is surely little more than an early bid for the best April Fool's joke. B)smk

Having googled up the Typhoons fatigue life it is 6,000 hrs however they are looking to extent that in some way but seems a bit strange that it is only 6,000 hrs compared to that of the Panavia Tornado GR4 which is/was 8,000 hrs!!

Statistically they are looking at service life beyond 2030 but still a way off with their projections, flying hours per Typhoon in Britain is around on average 30 hrs per aircraft each month which is a lot more that other countries who fly it who average around 15 hrs per month on each.

The report regarding the Tempest Aircraft also says that: Unlike the current generation of jets it could also operate as a drone without a pilot.

Goodbye pilots and hello AI's!! :worried:

Regards
Nigel.

I have seen a picture of this, it was upside down on a jig being towed around the airfield at Warton to a test shed, a year or so ago!
