50 Years Ago Today

Apollo 11 launched and three men went higher, faster, and farther than any pilot had before. All the way to the moon!

I was 7 and remember it very well. I remember thinking... wow when I grow up I won't have a car like dad...
I'll have a space ship. :excited: ..

Well :| 50 years later... I have a mini van- and drive that to KLNA .... then..
Puttputttputt ...a Cessna gets me up a thousand feet ....
Well hell, the TV towers just west of LNA are 1500 feet!
I want my money back
...and where are all the flying saucers!!

Your Thoughts... :worried:

I just turned 5 so don't remember it quite as well as you but do remember it, remember the later landings better. Its too bad the politico's just looked at the moon landings as a political stunt to 'beat the commies', and did not follow up on it. By now we would have had permanent bases on the moon and probably Mars. But until we find a more efficient way of getting into orbit than chemically fueled rockets we are not going to have our own personal space ships.

I was at RAF St Athens doing my trade training when I watched it, as in the words of Rowen and Martin's Laugh-in found it ..........Very interesting!!

Thought that there would be more moon landings in the future but 50 years on.........nothing apart from unmanned craft landing there.

Regards
Nigel.

Yes Sir, Since 86.

This is one of the many types kept @LNA I've been lucky enough to fly. (I'm in right seat)

If you ever get back here, give me a heads up.

At that time, we were planning our wedding.
The landing was watched at work, on a TV brought in by one of the bosses.
I expected more landings to follow once they had proved that it could be done.
With hindsight, it's probably good that they didn't go back quickly; at least it has delayed the major pollution and devastation which will follow as sure as night follows day. Even HG Wells included in "The Time Machine" that humans mined the Moon, which broke apart, causing chaos on Earth.
I might think of something else later.

We were driving home to Nottingham in our old Austin A35 from a holiday in Torquay and decided to detour past RAF Fairford on the off chance of seeing Concord 02 on test but didn’t hold out much hope becauase it was a Saturday. However after a short wait there she came and took off with a Canberra chase plane with her. On arriving home I stayed up all night to watch the moon landing. Magic.
During that holiday we met a young Dutch couple at the hotel and maintain contact right up to today. Although very sadly his wife died quite young about 20 years ago he eventually met a lovely lady and we all get on very well when we meet. We have seen each others family grow from babes to mature adults.
Sorry for rabbiting on a bit but there are so many memories from that period. :) EricT

Well who'd have guessed. I hired the 152 from Palm Beach Flying Training N49469 and I did my IR at Sebastian- in the hangar next to where they make the Velocity.
If I could work out how to get images on here I'd post some.

Small, small world.

Paul,
Seeing as you got fed up trying earlier, if you'd like to email the pics to me, I'll put them up for you. PM me, and I'll give you my address.
