I've now discovered the spinning is idiosyncratic : if one enters from a straight power off stall, it recovers easily ( in fact it doesn't really spin properly at all ) ; if, however, you enter from a power on climbing turn, the airspeed disappears completely and nothing will get it back, power on, power off , rudder on either direction etc. Strange...
This is the first a/c I've tried to spin, so maybe it's an X-plane vagary

My other half was upstairs sorting the washing out and I was sat on the sofa flying. 75kts clearly wasn't enough to keep me engaged and off I drifted!
