That doesn't look like a lamp. It looks like a drum for winding a cable which could have a lamp on the end.

Yes Mike - the Shuttleworth Gladiator was what I based my model on. Seen her fly at Old Warden - a great sight & sound.
is a weird one - looks like it could easily be powered by oil & wick.

And if you recognise the Crown design impressed on the case you can tell which monarch was on the throne at the time of manufacture ...... I don't, so must do a bit of research!

I'd be very interested to see what you come up with, Keith. The Air Ministry ran from 1918 to 1964.
I haven't found any images of the Crown 1920s yet.
The amount of Crown detail varies between items in my collection, and when I see items on the web from QE's reign, they just have, say, 52 over a broad arrow, no Crown at all. I'm not denying your statement. As I said, I'd be very interested.
