Sad to hear tonight that Dame Vera has died, aged 103.
I have several of her songs on CD, and whenever I listen, I am touched by the delivery and lyrics.
My most common thought is :"The poor buggers!"
I am sure that her strong and meaningful voice would have helped thousands in those desperate times.
R.I.P. and a heartfelt Thank you.

So sad to learn of her passing RIP Dame Vera Lynn.

Sad news indeed. I have been listening to a lot of Vera Lynn lately - There ia group I went to high school with that meet once a month fo dinner at a restaurant but we haven't met sine 3 March so I told the group "We'll Meet Again" is our theme song and that got many interested in Vera Lynn relatively unknown in the colonies. Remarkable lady, no question. Rest in peace, knowing that you brought comfort to so many for so long!

I'm saddened to read of Vera Lynn's passing. She was a great morale booster for our troops in WWII and a true National Treasure.

One ironic point with her song 'The White Cliffs of Dover' is that we don't have Bluebirds in the UK. I have read that the lyrics were written by an American who was unaware of the fact.

Yes the reference to Bluebirds was the giveaway that it was written in America. However I always used to think of Swallows, Martins and Swifts. I wonder if that was why the Scottish Bus companies run by Alexander had the Swift/swallow Logo and I seem to remember Midland Bluebird was one of the companies.
Anyway a sad moment. I also brought a CD of her music and my wife and I used to listen to it. Mind you she had a good innings and seemed to have lived life to the full.

Heartbreaking news. Rest in peace, Vera. The Bluebird/bus connection reminded me of the Bluebird school buses I rode as a child. Bluebird still manufactures school buses here in the US.
