Hi Chaps, just a quick explainer.

We've often wondered why all of the Xbox app components seem to be required when installing MSFS and updates etc. Well, I have taken the plunge tonight and decided to install Windows 11 on my PC. Given that I don't get to fly as much as I used to I figured it was better for me to jump in and try to get my head around it, than waiting.

So, it seems you can't install MSFS from the Windows store any longer, and while it shows up in your library, the button says open Xbox App. So you open the Xbox app and install it (in much the same way as you did in the Windows 10 store) but from within the Xbox App. You'll also find the first time you launch the Xbox App on Windows 11, it needs to download a "component" before it can start, and I suspect this is probably our old friend "Gaming Services."

Yes mate, wiped the two M.2 drives completely and installed from the USB key built from the Windows 11 Media Creation Tool

hi Ben, when you have had a few days/weeks with Win 11 please let us know of your thoughts especially when gaming if there is any truth about being quicker loading.

Many thanks in advance.

Regards
Nigel.

Something that might be helpful to others.... The size of the menu's and text in MSFS I find really infuriating. Its far to large... And today I discovered...

This was set to 100 by default, so I've adjusted it to 70 on mine. :cpu:

It affects things like the ATC etc which for me are far too big and obscure half the cockpit. I think it also affects the tooltips, but I'm not 100% on that one.

Went to change mine, and found it was at 75 already, so I must have changed it at some point and forgotten about it.

Finally purchased MSFS2020 (must be 5 or more years since I last flew a sim). Installed with default settings. First flight uneventful until taxing to the gate when Occulus home fired up and the game hung.
