I went down the same lines as you Joe. Couldn’t for the life of me find a Ventura / Harpoon with an inline engine. You live and learn. Next 😁

After the hint, I also searched for 'twin-engined American training aircraft of WW2' and not one mention or picture of that aircraft came up. So much for Google being all powerful and spying on us.
I think I said bomber because of the bomb aimers sloping window.

Yes, that could have made the vital difference.

This poor little one has been savaged and left like this. The tail was evidently discarded and found some distance away. What was it before it got chewed up?

Is there a conspiracy :dunno:
Quiz 13-03 has 13 correct entries :worried:
There are over 1400 Members on the register, can we get at least another one "winner" to avoid any superstitious nonsense?

I’ll take a look this evening Mike. My LG widescreen monitor gave up the ghost, quite literally on Thursday. It’s starting flickering and retained a faint image of everything that was on screen at that time, even with nothing connected to it. I removed the power supply waited 5 minutes and connected the power supply again. Same story, absolutely nothing connected to it only power but a faint but readable image of my desktop at the time it went. I’ve seen ghosting before on monitors that had been left running for years, but never an instant ghost of what was actually onscreen at that time, and not to the extent it was readable. So picking up a Samsung monitor today so should be back in the game.

The Ranger engine was not something I knew much about, probably because it was a failure and not used much so was not much help.
Over 15,000 units built and flown, hardly a failure , it was a development of the Cirrus engine btw.

I was reading about it and all the aircraft that used the V-770 engine had issues with it and none were a complete success, the Wikipedia description of the Curtiss SO3C Seamew said of it:
While the in-flight stability problem was eventually addressed (although not fully solved), the Ranger XV-770 engine proved a dismal failure even after many attempted modifications.
Sounds like L-440 from which it was derived was much more successful.

According to other sources, it didn't work that well in the Curtiss design because the Curtiss aerodynamics didn't allow sufficient cooling airflow.

Seems there weren't issues with Fairchild designs, it was after all a Fairchild designed engine
