Pitot tube sticks out like a sore thumb. This is the 23.
The 27 is different

. The fuel tanks were so designed that they created lift.

Kevin
Which is may be the reason the designers called them pinion tanks.

Assuming that you mean more aircraft bits, possibly leading to more pullover bits; with pleasure, Chris:

Quite true, Joe, though the 27 was based on the 23, and AFAIK the main difference was the large underwing gun pods for ground attack role. You picked up a less prominent difference.
OK, the long pitot is very noticeable, but it wasn't in the cropped picture which I posted, so it wasn't evident.
here's the full picture for those who haven't seen one:
If you can't read the text, it is a "Flogger B", explained elsewhere on the page as a MiG 23MF

...and here's a "MiG 27", which in my book of cutaways is labelled as a 23BN
I loosely described the pitot tube as a probe. Apologies.

I thought the schnoz was the most notable design change.

Or maybe they were feeling poetic?
There are several meanings for the word, including:

The wing of a bird :agree:

The outer rear edge of the wing of a bird, containing the primary flight feathers. :dunno:

A primary flight feather of a bird. :dunno:

To bind fast or hold down; shackle.
