Just Sightseeing When

Post by Nigel H-J »

Off to the west of Kilmarnock I was flying the DO 228 when I spied a ship so went for a closer look and the ship turned out to be a USA Aircraft Carrier, not only that but she was also moving which came as a surprise as usually ORBX Scenery Objects of ships are static.

Circled a couple of times then thought why not, got behind her and landed, no sooner had I done so the carrier started to turn around. Next flight will be in the Phantom.

Nice flying Nigel
Really shows the comparative size of military aircraft; they make that Dornier look small. :-O
Good shot of that Phantom, Brian. It's a mean machine alright.

Thanks Mike, that Dornier is a great aircraft to fly max speed as shown on the ASI is 200kts. I really enjoyed flying the Aerosoft Twotter in FSX but the one they have for X-Plane 11 is not very good and not by Aerosoft, Chris advised me of the Dornier and when I first flew it I knew it was definitely a keeper, in fact I would honestly say that it is much better than the Twotter to fly but that is my own personal opinion.

One thing I had noticed when making that flight in the Phantom in VR was that I flew over the carrier at around 500kts then made a really tight turn for the downwind leg and during that turn at 90deg bank had to look up and slightly back to keep an eye on the carrier but at the same time I really felt as though I was pushing some G into the turn although not the push downwards to the body effect you get when actually pulling G as such but I think it was down to motion in VR that confused my senses somewhat!!

Lovely picture of that Phantom Brian and much cleaner than mine!!

Regards
Nigel.

Many thanks Dale, the default Phantom in X-Plane 11 is very good as is the cockpit when viewed in VR. If a Phantom ever comes available for msfs pay-ware or otherwise I bet your friend will be wanting to fly it!!

Strangely enough I went up for a flight in it again today but despite spending over an hour searching for the carrier I could not locate it for the life of me!! :dunno:

Nigel.

Well, as far as I am concerned, good luck to 'em, I will just have to find another carrier to play with thought there are plenty just off Southampton Waters!!

If you cannot locate it then try the Solent as there is an aircraft carrier there that goes no-where fast!!

Nigel.
