Downunder, 25th April is ANZAC Day.
Strangely, the powers that be have decreed that 75,000 to 100,000 fans can go to the Australian Rules football match, but nobody is supposed to attend ANZAC marches. There is a limit of 1,400 to attend the outdoor dawn service at The Shrine of Remembrance in Melbourne.

Hi again, Den,
Would you care to expand your connection with 511 Squadron, period, activities etc, either here or via PM or email?
Thanks, Mike

I was an airframe mech on 511 Squadron based at RAF Colerne from 1957-1960. Ground crews always went away with the aircraft, which meant a lot of overseas trips. Sometimes for short periods, drop somebody, or something off, and get out, and longer when on detachments for exercises. There were a lot more RAF stations back then, and some of them like Aden and Cyprus were not nice places to be. Others like Singapore and Hong Kong, were much more agreeable.

It still happens today. I met a young guy on holiday in Crete, and he was stationed at Brize Norton on the C-17. Much like myself, he got very bored spending long hours in the aircraft, although his were a lot more comfortable and certainly a lot quieter.

My RAF career was cut short following a rather nasty motorbike accident involving a lady driver who claimed that the reason she hit me head on when she overtook another vehicle, was because " I didn't see him"

My RSL connection is through an old RAF pal who lives in Berri, South Australia. He is a member of my local RBL, and I'm a member of his RSL. I even have a badge which I wear with pride at our meetings.

Nuff said.
