I remember back in the 60s, when payroll hijacks were in fashion, an attempt was made on a shipyard payroll delivery in Newcastle. BBC TV North made the national news with the story, and their reporter told us " A security guard foiled the hijackers by turning the armoured car into a gasworks"

When I went for a pair of new hearing aids the audiologist was new to the company I went to and during our talk I asked what he did before taking up this position and he told me that he used to work for Securicor until after the second time he was faced with a shotgun in another armed robbery!!
