The Doors, "The End"

Post by Airspeed »

Maybe I'm just a bit vulnerable today?
Maybe because the TV news is full of Afghanistan again?
Maybe my long held disgust for war is strengthening as I get older?
I accidentally tripped over the above 11+ minute YouTube video today.
Don't recall ever hearing of it before, and though it's obviously not everybody's cup of tea, I found several portions very moving.
Cheers, Mike.

For all of Jim Morrison’s issues there are some great tracks. Riders On The Storm definitely, and “The End” is very perfect for certain situations.

Mike, try not to worry about it. While it is shit, it’s out of our control. It’s what happens when a habitat (the planet) becomes populated with a species with little or no predators.

One Of My favourites also, Brian. I was fortunate to see The Doors when they were brand new. "Light My Fire" had just started to be played on the radio and The Doors appeared at the Alexandria Rolling Rink in a battle of the bands. Jim Morrison had attended George Washington High School, a mile or so from the roller rink.

If I remember correctly it was used in the film 'Apocalypse Now'.

There were several Asian war still pictures, Simon; I'd say you are right.

Yes it was, both during the opening scenes and when Willard attacked Kurtz near the end.
