Best PC companies, please

Post by Paul K »

Hi all :hello:

I'm finally starting to look at a new computer, for flight simming and some CPU/GPU demanding games like Star Citizen, and while I haven't finalized the specs yet, I thought I would ask about PC companies, and what your experience with them might be.

I've always had a very good service from https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/ - my current computer was built by them, and apart from the cooler and PSU, has soldiered on for 12 years or so. Therefore they are at the top of the list. However, I'd be interested in hearing any recommendations, caveats and condemnations concerning other PC suppliers.

And before anyone suggests it - no, I'm not going to order the parts and build my own.

Thanks in advance. :)

Hi Paul, I purchased my latest computer 2 years ago from Scan. I highly recommend them and they build to order or you can choose ones' that are ready made.

Very friendly service and one company that I will go back to if I ever need another computer.

They are located in Bolton and once my order was placed they kept me informed of the build along with pictures of my new computer they have over 30 years experience.

Late edit: for some reason the link I gave is playing up so if you just type in Scan Computers you will get there. BTW, Scan are appointed to 'er Royal Majesty. Also up to three year warranty given. I have one year left!! :worried:

Regards
Nigel.

I brought one from PCSpecialists on line last September and just love it. I think that the build quality is amazing and I'm in IT for a living. My last PC was nursed along since 2007 and was quite a monster when bought. Only MSFS 2020 made me upgrade at last. You can find them here

Hi Paul. Just seen this. I have to say I can recommend Chillblast. I’m on my second one now and I I only changed to upgrade for MSFS. The old one went to my son and it has’nt missed a beet.
As they advertise pre built selection or they will build your own ideas. I have found them very friendly and helpful, and they will discuss upgrades with you and send you the right parts for your unit.
Just my two peneth worth. Good luck.

Thank you chaps - your recommendations are on the list. Up until now, I have used PC Specialists, but another company I am also considering is Midland Computers https://showroom.midlandcomputers.com/ who I have seen at the flight sim show at Cosford. They are a general IT company, but have a particular interest in flight simming. Of course, the big problem at the moment is the chip shortage, and waiting times for Nvidia cards, but I shall just have to live with that.

Hi Paul, I don't know anything about Midland Computers but I have used Scan in the past and can recommend them. Perhaps also consider Overclockers but pretty much any of those already named would probably do the job.

I remember Scan in their very early days and they had a difficult start but have improved immeasurably since then. Easy to find off the M61 if you're ever up that way.

Hi Chris - I've got an account with Scan, and during the life of my current PC, I've bought two GPU cards from them. That's you and Nigel H-J recommending them. :)

Hi Paul
I'd also reccomend Scan. I usually upgrade using their overclocked bundles and have always found them very compatitive and first rate for service and support.

I always build my own, but mostly get the components from Scan or Overclockers. I've found both to be very good.
