My RTX3060ti plays very nicely with my Ryzen 7 5800X and the X470 chipset it runs with.

Dale, Charlie Bravo - thanks! :)

Charlie, I've made a few modifications - but keeping that expensive case - it's the only one that has the combination of 5.25" bays, long enough to accommodate the chosen graphics card, and will actually slide under the frame of the table I use as a desk ( the next case down is too tall ). I want the 5.25" bay for an internal blu-ray drive - just my own preference, I suppose.

Dale - yes, a 4TB is a bit extravagant, isn't it . However I do have a lot of other sims /games, such as X-Plane 11 with Orbx True Earth, DCS, Rise of Flight, IL2 Sturmovik: Stalingrad, Eve Online, Star Citizen, Elite Dangerous, loads of other Steam games, a stack of music to load ...I know I'm probably still going over the top with storage, but I really don't want to have to uninstall things to make room in the future.

As for the AMD vs Intel question, at the moment I'm reading reviews and benchmark comparisons between AMD Ryzen 5900X 12 Core 3.7 GHz and the Intel i9 -10900X 10 Core 3.7 Ghz . I've also looked up the question of whether AMD CPU's work well with Nvidia cards ( I've also read some concerns about this in the past, Dale ) - but it seems there is no problem.

With the MSFS change to DX12 - you recommend a 12Gb VRAM card ? Something else to look up, I think.

Right guys, here's a tentative spec, based on an AMD Ryzen 9 CPU. I've wound down the RAM from 64 to 32, but might put it back up. GPU has gone up to a 12 Gb VRAM RTX-3080 Ti.

Case
BE QUIET! DARK BASE PRO 900 REV. 2 FULL TOWER GAMING CASE

Processor (CPU)
AMD Ryzen 9 5900X 12 Core CPU (3.7GHz-4.8GHz/70MB CACHE/AM4)

Motherboard
ASUS® STRIX B550-F GAMING (DDR4, USB 3.2, 6Gb/s)

Memory (RAM)
32GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR4 3600MHz (2 x 16GB)

Graphics Card
12GB NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 3080 Ti - HDMI, DP

What say you ? :)

I think I'd be more inclined to go with an X570 based board as opposed to B550. I'd also stick with the 32gb RAM as that's the highest option available for 3600Mhz sticks which is what Ryzen likes for optimum running.
I suppose you could always ask them to double it up mind. Other than that, much better

Final spec, then:

Processor (CPU)
AMD Ryzen 9 5900X 12 Core CPU (3.7GHz-4.8GHz/70MB CACHE/AM4)

Motherboard
ASUS® ROG STRIX X570-F GAMING (USB 3.2 Gen 2, PCIe 4.0) - ARGB Ready!

Memory (RAM)
32GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR4 3600MHz (4 x 8GB)

Graphics Card
12GB NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 3080 Ti - HDMI, DP

Thanks for all the help, guys - I'm about to take a deep breath and press the 'purchase' button. :worried:
