Hi Mike, I have only been able to find small snippet of news regarding recovery and that a joint British and American Operation is underway to try and recover the aircraft however, even though the jet went down not far from the carrier the aircraft wings would have made it glide underwater for a distance before settling on the sea bed which will make locating it a complex process.

I think what the British and Americans are worried about is that if it falls into the hands of a foreign country, with all the secret equipment on board would be a devastating blow to all.

Couldn't agree more, Nigel, that's why I thought they would have got to it by now.

Video posted which is believed to be the F35 from HMS Queen Elizabeth. I just don't know why the pilot did not stop before reaching the ramp as the speed was very slow, at first I thought the video was in slow motion but you only have to watch the groundcrews moving about.

You can also see the pilots' parachute floating down shortly afterwards.

Hi Nigel, tbh if it was a STOL Take off the forward speed doesn't build as quickly as you might think, as the lift jets would do some of the work. I think he's realised before he hits the ramp that something is wrong hence why the forward motion slows (I think he kills the power before he hits the ramp in an effort to stop it) but there's nothing he can do. I heard somewhere that they suspected a cover had been left on an engine (which seems hard to believe, but you never know). Just what it looks like to me.

Hi Ben, you could be right, I know from seeing Harriers take off they have been pretty fast when hitting the slope but with the F35s TBH I have never watched them use the ski slope for take-off.

Nigel.

I suspect because the brakes weren't enough to slow down 10+ tonnes of aircraft in the space available.
