Black Box Islander for MS2020 - opinions ?

Post by Paul K »

I'm considering buying this, but thought I'd see if anyone here has got it and what they think of it.

With WU7 in MSFS, and new island airports added in the Torres Strait, I think this aircraft would be just the job.

Cracking little aircraft Paul
I've had it since launched for msfs She flys well, and without any unexpected surprises. Nav systems work as they should. Well modelled, and the sounds are OK too. Can't really think of any negatives. I was always going to buy the Twin Otter, but the Islander covers most things that I would want the Twotter to do.

Dale, Ben - thanks! That's very encouraging. I'm thinking about the Aerosoft Twin Otter, but the Islander is a nice alternative, so I'm glad Blackbox has done it justice. Great pics, Ben.

Well, now that Aerosoft has all but admitted there'll be no sound fix for the Twin Otter, the Islander is once more in focus. However, the new Trislander is getting a lot of attention on Youtube, so I wonder if anyone here has got it ?

I haven't got the Trilander, but the Islander is getting a big update soon to bring it up to "study level", and adding the Defender version as well. Price will be going up accordingly, but the update will be free for current owners, so if you're going to get it, is so so soon.

That settles it - thanks, Dave. Off to get the Islander.

Bought it, flew it, love it. Apart from the trim wheel going in the opposite direction, but that's a small issue. One big question - the copilot figure appears in the row of seats behind the pilot. Can that be altered, or is it baked into the model ?

That's been a bit of a standing issue since release. The "co-pilot" is supposed to represent a passenger, that's why he/she's in that seat rather than the actual co-pilots seat. You can set the payload weight to zero and they'll disappear. Not sure if that's going to be changed in the forthcoming update.
