Air France pilots struggle with a Boeing's controls

Post by Paul K »

It doesn't specify the type of Boeing, nor when it actually happened. Sounds like a very frightening moment for the crew.

EDIT: Boeing 777-300, apparently.

There is a very good review of all the current info on the Blancolirio channel.

He is a B777 pilot. It appears that the pilots responded correctly to the situation that they found themselves in.

To understand the subtitles , substitute "downwind" for "tail wind" ( mistranslation of " vent arriere" )

Yeah, Juan mentions that in his analysis.

Also, he makes the point it sounds like a disrupted ILS (the deviation left) and the "stiff controls" were likely because they were fighting the still engaged autopilot (you can hear the AP disconnect horn after the first transmissions). Being startled like that in hard IMC and the "stuck mic" it's not a negative to the crew - they focused on flying the plane out of a bad situation and then figured out what was going on after the plane was flying away from the ground.

It will be interesting to see what caused the disruption, something on the plane or something on the ground.
