We've got the entirety of collective human knowledge instantly available at our fingertips at any time, courtesy of our "smart" devices....yet we still get dumberererer with every passing day! :S :S

Why do the people of the US use the term 'dumb' to mean 'stupid'? 'Dumb', refers to the inability to talk/speak (i.e. mute) and has absolutely nothing to do with the level of intelligence of the person referred to.
Take the late Prof Stephen Hawking. Although he could make sounds and therefore wasn't technically 'dumb' (although without technology, he may well have been described as such), I doubt there is anyone who would question his intelligence.

Correct, however it's just common parlance over here, Kevin. You guys invented the language - we butcher it. I suppose that's just how it works?

A few days ago, I was watching a YouTube video, something about 'The Dumbest Things Americans Say'. A lady from the UK was visiting the US and an American said to her 'Your English is really good'. To which she replied 'I'm from England'. The American responded with 'Yes,but your English is so good. Did you learn it in college, or have you been in the US for a long time'. :-O 8)
