Just a quick update chaps. I was using these runs to try and get the fuel burn on the Hunter to match up with the pilot notes. While we got it there or there abouts at 7000 rpm, when the rpm changes it goes a bit off (higher RPM giving lower fuel burn and visa versa) but it seems to be a sim issue. Anyway, here are some of Peter McClellands' "Echo" during testing. We are in Singapore ATM, next stop Java :cpu:

One of the things which interests me about the fantastic shots which Paul and now Ben have produced is the specification of the internet link in each case, to enable this level of detail to be acquired " on the fly" as it were? Are the links of fantastically sophisticated specification and speed, or are they relatively ordinary ?

That second-from-last picture: there is something very right about a Hunter over the desert. It must remind me of something - Oman perhaps ?

Thanks guys. To be honest, the credit needs to go to Dave as she's fantastic.

Chris, I do have a good internet connection, and this is something I do see asked. The truth of the matter is that it doesn't use a lot of the available bandwidth, as long as it is a reliable connection, it seems happy to trickle along at between 2 - 5 Mbps. Last year out of curiosity, I connected my PC to a 4G mobile router to try it and it also worked well. I do have the scenery cache switched on and this stores the local content in a file on the PC which the sim can access directly so it doesn't always stream the data from the internet.

Paul, I think that is southern Iran (or possibly Pakistan) I had notes made on a piece of paper as I was doing each leg, but I had inadvertently binned it with some wrapping paper on Wednesday night.

Ah yes, come to think of it, those ridges off to the right could be the same ones I flew over in Iran. :agree:

Ben : thank you very much . The reason I asked is that we are fairly slow here in the NW, with download speeds last time I looked of about 4.8 M bits/sec . I have been wondering for a while whether to have a go at FS2020, but there wasn't a lot of point if it would not work without much faster speeds. You encourage me greatly

To be absolutely honest Chris, while using the sim with those sort of download speeds will be fine, updating it will be another matter. The initial download is about 100GB (even if you buy the disc version) and the there are monthly updates which range from 5Gb up.

The solution might be 4G mobile. This might seem odd, but I have a friend up in the wilds of Scotland who bought a little 4G router and some external antenna last year. He's gone from 2.5 Mbps on his BT ADSL connection, to 40-60Mbps on his little 4G router. His upload speeds are also good at about 10Mbps he reckons. There are lots of mobile sim card options too for the 4 G router (which is about the size of a box of kitchen matches). He's currently using Voxi (pay as you go Vodafone) and paying £30 per month for unlimited data. The little router has a battery in it too and fits in his pocket, so even if the power goes off, he can get a couple hours or take it with him in the Landy. Also because he's on pay as you go on the mobile sim, if a better deal comes out, he can just change the sim card to another provider and off he goes. It's certainly worth considering if your internet isn't great.

To give you an idea, I used the same little router when I moved into this house, as it was 6 months before there were any cables for the internet. We had the TV, my work computer and my flight sim PC all connected and playing along nicely. In fact, when my current Virgin media deal is up in September, I might go back to 4G as its much cheaper than the alternatives here.

I have a friend who has just bought an isolated farmhouse in Lincolnshire, and that's pretty much the route he's taken. He's not a flight-simmer or gamer, but the capacity is there if he needs it.
