Classic British Flight Sim

You may remember Mike (Airspeed) posting photos of his 3-D printing work on here a while ago. He very kindly sent me a copy of a Film Footage Indicator as used in RAF PR aircraft during the 1940s as a thank you for a (very) small service I had rendered.

I was wondering how to make best use of it and then the penny dropped. In a quiet corner of the Battle of Britain Hall we have a small exhibition on photo reconnaissance and, after having a suitable display case made for it, there it now resides.

I was at the Tangmere museum last week. It was my first visit, and strangely enough, I found it to be very claustrophobic. Many small areas absolutely crammed with objects. Even the halls where the aircraft were, felt too small. Especially the one that housed the Lightning.

Lots of knowledgeable volunteers all willing to spend time talking to you. In fact, there seemed to be more of them than visitors when we were there.

I enjoyed my visit and could have spent longer there, but I just felt that I had to get back out into the fresh air. It was really weird.

We had coffee and cake in the garden before we left.

We actually stayed about three miles from Tangmere, and on the following day, two Spitfires flew directly over the lakeside lodge that we were staying in. It may have been the same aircraft both times, but it was great to see and hear it.

Ah, you're too kind but the credit is all Mike's. Our Engineering Special Projects Team do a lot of 3-D printing at the museum and when I showed the film indicator to the head of the team he was genuinely impressed by what Mike had achieved.
