Returning the ZAP

Post by TSR2 »

Having taken the Hunter to Melbourne, I decided to bring back G-ZAPR. Originally with TNT in the UK, she was transferred to Ansett Air Freight in Australia in 1989. After Ansett collapsed, she was picked up by Titan and returned to the UK.

Tonight was Melbourne to Cairns 4 hours in real time :$

4 hours ?? Luxury! It took me five legs at 135 knots to get that far. Great pictures, and rather nice that you have a real-world flight to replicate. Looking at the pictures, I wonder if you flew through the same weather as I did. Windy.com and MSFS RW weather and cloud cover correspond to a remarkable degree.

Cairns to Sentani
What I thought would a short hop seemed much longer, mostly thanks to a 670 mile sector with no navaids between Australia and New Guinea. Approach to Sentani was on the visual RW12 and rather close to the top of some hills but we made it. The plan (in so far as there is one) is up to Guam next I think, and then on to Japan. I'm thinking that by the time I get to Canada, WU11 may well be out, so that will make a nice test.

I'm looking forward to the Canada update too, it'll just arrive nicely for this trip. You're way ahead of me, of course, and I haven't got the range for Guam anyway. Great pictures.

Slight change of plan Paul. I've decided to go up via the Philippines as there'll be more to see en route. Two legs today, the first took me from Sentani to Davao. Then a relatively short hop from Davao up to Manila.
Discovered how to get rid of the co-pilot (who has been a pest all trip, so binned him at Davao) and managed to get rid of the FMS :cpu:
A lovely touch in the JF146 is the shaded glass panels that you can click on in the side pouches and place them in the runners that go around the inside of the windows. They do a great job of preventing glare.

Next I'll be heading up to Taiwan.

The did indeed Paul. back to work after the bank holiday so a relatively short hop from Manila up to Kaohsiung in Taiwan. From there the plan is to head up to the Okinawa Islands off Japan's south coast later in the week.

Anyway, off we go just before sunrise from Manila...

Just arriving over Taiwan's southern tip. Once again the VOR was useless (nothing at all) so I made use of a couple of NDB's nearby.
