Birmingham to Breast

Short hop today on the VA. Haven't flown FlyBe for a while, so thought I'd give her an outing inspired by Dale...

GREAT shots and ENJOYABLE flight report.

How do you lock on runway?? I always use approach button in all modern jets to lock on runway but BAE146s/AVRO RJ jets do not have approach buttons so I land manually which can be tricky to stay on straight path due to changing winds but manage to land safely.

Hi Aharon,

Once I’ve intercepted the ILS (about 8 - 10 miles out) I engage GSL and VL. At most airports in the sim the glide slope is 3 degrees, so you approach slightly below it, maybe 2500ft. Then once the beam is intercepted, the annunciator lamps will go green and the Alt Hold will switch off, the autopilot will take the aircraft all the way down.

(I should mention the Autopilot and FD are on before this and I’ll have her on heading hold and alt hold which disengage when shes engage on the ILS)

So GSL and VL buttons in BAE146s/Avro RJ jets are same as single Approach button in any modern airline jet plane?

Its a different technology, and from memory the RJ is slightly different to the 146, but haven’t flown the RJ in a couple of years. I’ve never flown a modern yet properly, so couldn't say for sure.

Okay not a problem I will try two buttons GSL and VL to see if it performs like the single approach button.

Great shots, Ben.

However, from the thousands of times I've been (it was my local airport when I was growing up and until lockdown, I went back there regularly), the buildings look nothing like Birmingham Airport (BHX/EGBB). Are they generic Microsoft Flight Simulator buildings? The 'climb out' shot does show an accurate representation of runways, taxiways and aprons, including the extended runway (15/33, is now 3000m/10,000ft).
Also, I never saw a 146 with an airbridge on it, even though they were very frequent at BHX.

Regards

Kevin
