DMFS Panel Improvement (by HJG)

Post by Mark C »

I'd like to take this opportunity to introduce/demonstrate a feature HJG have now incorporated into the DMFS BAC ONE-ELEVEN, DH106 COMET, HS121 TRIDENT, VC10, and VC10/C1K panels .... and which publicly released at HJG yesterday (June 30th 2023).

A functional WX Radar (by HJG's George CARTY) set has now been incorporated into each of these panels .... whilst not altering a single established feature or the functionality of these DMFS panels.

Two versions of this WX Radar set have been incorporated into these panels. One for the DMFS TRIDENT .... and which is also shared (for reasons of period/1960's similarity) by the DMFS BAC ONE-ELEVEN and both VC10 and VC10/C1K panels. The other (featuring a late 1950's era presentation) for the DMFS COMET panel.

These WX Radar sets are similar to those already incorporated into HJG's own panels as well as some of the others it has imported and modified accordingly.

These WX Radar sets each present accurate detection in regard to prevailing FS weather selections .... BUT .... are dependent on either an unlicensed, or fully licensed, version of Pete DOWSON's FSUIPC module to be installed in FS. Without this module (obtainable from SHIRATTI.COM and as separate FS2004 and FSX versions) the WX Radar set in each of these panels cannot function.

The following are a few images to demonstrate the new WX Radar sets now implemented into each of the HJG offered (only) versions of these DMFS panels ....

In the case of each of the above three panels only this WX Rader set (with all of its functional mode selectors) is represented as a sub-panel .... commanded into view using the new "WX" icon located among the bank of other sub-panel selection icons featured within each of these same three panels.

In the case of the TRIDENT panel the WX Radar is located on the main panel (precisely as per DM's original production) and with all of its mode selectors now functional ....

In the case of the two BAC ONE-ELEVEN, TRIDENT, and COMET panels these WX Radar sets function in both 2D and VC panel views .... whilst both DMFS VC10 panels were only ever produced (by DM) as 2D type panels.

Here's a clearer presentation of the WX Radar set featured in these BAC ONE-ELEVEN, TRIDENT, and both VC10 panels .... along with a few comments in regard to how these sets function ....

AN ENLARGED VIEW OF THE BAC ONE-ELEVEN, TRIDENT, AND VC10 WX RADAR
Image

- The selector located at the top-left of these WX Radar sets (below the actual Radar screen) is the ON/OFF" switch .... which switches the unit between "OFF, ON", and "STAB" settings.

- The large rotary selector located within the center of these WX Radar sets is the "RADAR ANTENNAE TILT" switch .... enabling the antennae scanner to be set at axis' ranging between 15* up or down.

- The selector located at the top-right of these WX Radar sets is the "RANGE LINE INTENSIFIER" .... to dim or intensify brightness of the displayed line definitions of range and in accordance with personal preference.

- The selector located at the bottom-left of these WX Radar sets is the "RANGE SELECTOR" .... enabling range to be set in increments of 20, 50, or 150 miles.

- The selector located at the bottom-left-middle of these WX Radar sets is the "CONTRAST SELECTOR" .... enabling brightness of the overall screen to be dimmed or brightened in accordance with personal preference.

- The selector located at the bottom-right-middle of these WX Radar sets is the "GAIN" selector .... with 3 selectable settings enabling brightness of displayed meteorological detection to be dimmed or brightened in accordance with personal preference.

As already related above the COMET panel WX Radar set is slightly different and simpler in it features (for reason of period authenticity) as follows ....

This is the COMET WX Radar set presented here in VC panel view (only) and for reasons of clarity .... along with a few comments in regard to this sets functionality also ....

- The selector located within the top-left of this WX Radar set is used to turn this set "ON/OFF" and also select weather detection range .... and which maybe set at 10, 50,and 150 mile increments accordingly.

- The selector located within the top-right of this WX Radar set is used to tilt/alter the axis of the WX Radar Scanner in order to aid weather detection/s.

- The selector located within the bottom-right of this WX Radar set (PLEASE NOTE: This particular selector can only be accessed in VC panel view .... it "is not" accessible in 2D panel view due to its location and being cropped out of view by definition of the 2D panel itself) is used to alter the brilliance/intensity of WX Radar display and in accordance with personal preference.

In the R/W most of the COMET WX Radar selectors were actually located within the top-left and along the bottom of this set.

As the base of this WX Radar set is not visible within the original DMFS 2D COMET panel .... and .... as the Control Yoke conceals part of the bottom left of the WX Radar set in VC panel view also .... HJG "had to" relocate some selectors to the top-left, top-right, and bottom-right of this WX Radar set in order to promote accessibility. HJG "DID NOT" want to alter DM's concept of how "he wanted" this, and his other panels also, to appear, so, what's offered has been implemented around precisely what's always been provided .... with the resulting benefit of everything being accessible and working.

These WX Radar set featured versions of the DMFS BAC ONE-ELEVEN, DH106 COMET, HS121 TRIDENT, VC10, and VC10/C1K panels may be downloaded from HJG.

PLEASE NOTE: These files are (currently) only accessible using download links provided within the following-linked HJG File Release announcement ....

These files have not yet been transferred to the DOWNOADS section of the HJG website .... and it may be a while before they are. Please note the download instruction at the start of the above linked announced .... and feel free to access these files,

"SPECIAL ADDITIONAL NOTE"

Since 2021 HJG have resolved all of the previously known issues affecting the DMFS panels (mostly limited to just APU and engine startup irregularities) .... and additionally made these same panels both FS2004 and "properly FSX portable". These fixes have also been incorporated into these WX Radar featured DMFS panels also .... among other improvements as well .... none of which have altered the functionality and appearance of DM's concept of how he wanted these panels to look and perform.
