Amazing New Aviation Fact

Shalom and greetings all my pals,

Could not find subforum that is fit for aviation discussion so I thought this subforum would be perfect for me to post AMAZING AVIATION FACT that all of you might not know.

I always thought that NZGS Gisborne airport is the only airport that has railroad tracks crossing the runway.

Turns out I am WRONG. There is an airport in northern France called LFAT Le Touquet Airport that had railroad track crossing roads, taxiway, runway and even the tarmac where you could get off the train stopped in front of plane to walk few steps to board the plane!!

Pretty amazing huh?? BTW, you can use CBsim virtual airline to recreate that BAC1-11 flight in the video!!!

Can anyone please be kind to tell me which variant or version of BAC 1-11 is that plane, please?

I think it is most likely G-AXJK which was a BAC-111 501 with 2 Rolls Royce Spey engines.. flew on a similar aircraft on Court Line in the early 70's....it was all PINK!!

If you look at Le Touquet airport on Google Earth it would appear that the trainline once entered the airport to the south of RW31 threshold, crossed the taxiway and curved left to the apron.

It does not appear to have ever crossed the runway (no sign of a bridge over the river which runs alongside the runway).

The line must have been removed many years ago, it certainly wasn't there when I flew in there in a C172 in 2009.

The key here Aharon is that the aircrafts name is clearly visible by the front pax door.

Further details show the aircraft was later sold to Philippines Airlines, and unfortunately broken up 1996, in Manila.

I think it would be fun to recreate that BCAL BAC 1-11 flight from that airport!!! Too bad there is no FSX scenery for LFAT showing train tracks!!

IIRC Hamble also had a rail line that ran across the apron

Pete , correct for Hamble . When taxying used to have to look out for engines pulling tank cars carrying oil products from the oil terminal at the Hamble shoreline .
