Round the World 3: Adelaide's Vimy

Post by Paul K »

After the trip on the Ghan, I spent a few days in Adelaide, visiting places from my childhood, including my old school. Thence to the airport for the flight to Sydney, but making sure I had plenty of time to see the Smith Brother's Vimy. This was the first time I'd seen the aircraft since 1968.

I've included shots of air routes, which might inspire some long-distance trips in MSFS. There are others routes displayed in the exhibition, which I will post if anyone's interested.

As ever click on the photos to see them full size.

Hi Paul,

Fascinating stuff. I can't imagine flying half way around the world in an open cockpit like that. They really were pioneers.
All sorts of things go through your mind, but imagine keeping those engines going non stop for days on end. There are no adventures like that any more, everything is monitored to within an inch of its life, data transmitted to experts all over the world. The four of them being the experts and flying the Vimy is just such a feat. I know there were others too, don't get me wrong, but it must have been such a real adventure.

Thanks for sharing again, I'm really enjoying these.

Yes, all these pioneers right up to the start of WW2 were remarkable men and women. I'm hoping for a Vickers Vimy in MSFS at some point - maybe with the 1990's replica Vimy as an option.

Glad you're enjoying the pictures, Ben.
