FSX > P3D

After nearly thirty years of flying most versions of FS from FS4 to FSX (obviously not FS95, it was awful!) I am about to upgrade (replace) my PC.

This will necessitate dragging myself (kicking and screaming) on to Win 11 (been on WIN7 for a loooong time) and I am also going for P3D (please don't try to persuade me onto MSFS)

So I have a couple of questions

1.) are all the keyboard shortcuts similar between FSX and P3D?
(things like G for Gear, F5 to F8 for flaps, that sort of stuff)

2.) can I convert relatively basic flight models (such as the DM aircraft) to P3D?
If not where can I find nice, but cheap, versions of:-
VC9
748
Argonaut
Trident
VC10/15

Mucho thanks

Ady

Hi Adrian,
Congratulations on the PC upgrade.
I can't personally help with P3D questions, but I would recommend a yoke with as many levers and buttons as you can afford, plus rudder pedals with toe brakes; then you won't need keyboard shortcuts. I've been using a second-hand yoke & pedals for years.
Windows 11 isn't to be feared; even I made the transition from my old pal W7, and lived to tell the tale.
I can understand your reluctance to embrace MSFS, my internet connection would not let me use it. (That's when I do have an internet connection.)
Good luck with it all.

Andy,

Sorry for being lurker in this subforum but would like to wish you matzel tov on your ownership of new pc and enjoy your new computer in good health. Also, would like to wish you happy 30th anniversary with flight simming.

When you get settled down with new pc and new P3D, take screenshots!

Regards,

Aharon

Hi Ady, great news on the new PC, hope it all goes smoothly for you.

Point 1. Yes, mostly the same or similar.

Point 2. No VC9, although in the last version of P3D I had (4), it worked of a fashion.
748, Argonaut not sure. I think theres a Just Flight 748 for P3D?

Trident never really worked properly for me in P3D and issues with animations and textures.

VC10 / VC15, again, the JF one is pretty good.

Now, here's the question. Why not just install FSX and FS9 on the new PC too? They will happily co-exist (as long as you give them different install folders etc).

I used P3D for quite a while, yes the key codes were all the same and most FSX native aircraft would work fine in it. Fs9 models however need to be converted. I have used many of the JustFlight payware designed for FSX in P3D. Personally I found P3D to be a much more stable and reliable version of FSX and once I got it setup I only went into FSX when I needed to test something.

That being so, I don't understand why you'd need to use keyboard buttons to activate gear etc., Ady

Which version of P3D are you going with? Up to V4 (I think and most definitely V3.5) any FSX aircraft can be used in P3D. After V4 and certainly after they went to 64 bit coding all bets are off.

Version 5.3, so definitely 64 bit.

Can't find install discs for FSX to run that in parallel otherwise that would be a good ploy.

Is there a version of FS Commander for P3D V5.3 or an equivalent replacement?
Same question for FS Tramp?
( I like FS Tramp because it tells me what navaids are actually there on my sim as opposed to FSC which tells me what should be there in reality)
