After 10 years in the making I have finally released the LDR C-119G Boxcar and Boxcar Tanker. This aircraft has been tested in FSX+SP2, FSX+Acceleration, FSX:Steam Edition and P3D v3.0 up to v5.3.

It is available from the SOH library and the link below will take you to the announcement page with links to both aircraft, alternative hi-res texture packs (for those that can run 4096 textures) and the paint kit.

Enjoy!

Have fun!

Here's a few tips for you:

1) Read the manual as there are some very important bits in there.
2) Turn on the ASI 'bugs' as they really help especially on approach. If you 'keep the needle in the bug' by adjusting the throttles on descent you will fly a perfect ILS approach every time. I have had a perfect 'auto land' situation twice during testing where I didn't turn off the auto-pilot until after I was on the ground!
3) For short runways when you are heavy you can use either the Water Injection/WEP switches on the pedestal or the JATO if you have it displayed. You can even use both at the same time for extra 'umphhhhhhhhhhhhh'! :agree:
4) Read up on how to use the reverse props feature to get stopped in a hurry on short strips! It uses the same methodology as jets and once you've engaged reverse mode (shown by the horizontal 'barber pole' on the engine gauges) advance the throttles to max. to get full reverse thrust. Make sure you get out of 'reverse' before stopping though otherwise you run the risk of pulling a 'wheelie' with the rear doors on the deck and your nose in the air! DAMHIKIJDOK! :$ :wasntme:
5) Test out the 'slow start' feature at least once. Roman put in hours of work to perfect that sequence and it is a joy to watch from the outside! Use the pop-up electrical panel for controls.

Enjoy!

  Just had a short wander around Valdez in Alaska using the Santa Fe scheme. An absolute delight. Such benign flight handling but with plenty of detail to give the aircraft depth and lots of features to explore. I’m so happy that there are still some heroes willing to spend their time giving us freeware aircraft for FSX. Well done and thank you

Well ! took her for a ride :)

Getting some cargo in

Got the slow start going here.

Up and running, ready to go

Actually got the JATO started and set full thrust without engines and that thing made me taxi quickly, it does pack a punch for sure.

Not the most stable approach
Image

But after some rudder trickery got it almost over the centerline

And toouchdown!

It flies quite sweet!

Looks great, Larry! I see lots of delicious buttons, switches, and systems depth noted in your manual. Makes me wish I still had P3D installed!

Had another great flight earlier, hauled some pallets of freight from Valdez to Juneau. Autopilot works very well. Noticed one tiny quibble, the ADF frequency can’t be tuned after the decimal place. Was trying to tune 212.0 but couldn’t change from 212.5.
