The only full 2d drawing I have done is this one:

Of course, this is nowhere near the detail of Tom's drawings!

Are there any tutorials out there to help with drawings like this? I'd love to be able to get the same sort of detail, and make it look convincing.

None of the artists seem to be answering the cries of many.

Let me try...

Any tutorials for how these kinds of drawings are done would be of great interest to many.

Thank you.

I usually start by drawing the outline of the aircraft, just the basic shape.

Then on another layer I add the basic colour scheme

Then using mainly the lighten/darken tool in PSP8 I add shadows and highlights on a third layer over the basic scheme. Airliners.net comes in handy for checking how light reflects of the various different surfaces.

Finer details like aerials and gear are added last.

The Vampire still needs a few fine details adding.

Hope this helps a little!

Tom.

You make it look so easy! I think I'd have enough trouble getting the line drawing right!

I think probably the most skilful bit is getting the base lines right and even then being able to see in the mind what the finished job will be like

But with out the correct base it won't work.

It is a gift to be able to do that to the standard shown here

Thanks for that Tom. I'm guessing you're using a tablet of some sort to get those lines just so?

That Vampire is awesome!

Do you have a collection of these which you might like to share?
