On behalf of the 748 team thank you - we all hope you have as much fun with it as we did getting it born , and welcome to the forum
just ignore some of us old curmodgeons - it is, without a doubt, probably the livielest and informative place on the FS circuit

We had a guy working with us a couple of years back who'd served his
time on 'em at Woodford.

That's the name they gave'em.

Why was the ATP such a flop? Am I right in assuming poorly designed landing gear seeing as they usually collapsed on touchdown.

No, it wasn't because of landing gear.

In a nutshell, its' because it wasn't the great leap forward from the 748
that everyone hoped for. It didn't have a large freight door,so it couldn't be flown passengers by day, freight by night like the 748, the early version of the engine and its electrical control computer was unreliable, which didn't help despatch regularity figures (it earned the nickname Skoda, later changed to Yugo;as in you go tell ops its' u/s!), and its' first generation glass cockpit wasn't much better either; at a time when airlines that would have liked a "748 GT" wanted a cheap to run and maintain do-it-all plane it was expensive, simple as that.
