Our Macchi 202s (and later , MC- 205 and FIAT G-55) were truly great planes, better that the 109 G-6 but , of course, mounted Daimler Benz 601 and 605 because Italian industry was totally unable to construct reliable engines for such a fighters. Then, the total amount of working hours for the building of a Macchi was three times the hours spent for a Spit V. Our fighters were solid and beautiful but an engineering nitemare.
This is one of the millions reasons we lost a war:))
