just making legitamate criticisms of a system that
address's the "game" side of its product but neglects the realism side
I think X-plane is what you're looking for then.
For many, real flying is as much taking in scenery (an African flying safari for example) on VFR trips as it is flying an invisible highway with zero visibility beyond the windscreen for others. I think in our critisisms here, we need to gain some perspective and realise that the package is not a specialist product intended for anal armchair pilots who think they ARE pilots because the can shoot an ILS in zero visibility. How boring would that be. It is a virtual GENERAL representation of real world flight comprising - as far as possible - everything about it. That's the beauty of it - and frankly, that what makes them enough money to warrant keeping a new version of FS on the shelf every two years.
Forget about the 'elephants' as such, but rather ask yourself, given that we are able to see roaming elephants in Africa, what else might there be within the sim, that hasn't been revealed yet. According to the FS developers, quite a bit!
MS HAVE to market this under the 'Game' umbrella, because legally there needs to be clear line between FS a an entertainment product and FS as a (real world) instructional tool. Although FS hasn't officially been given the go ahead for general flight training there are many organisations who use the FS software for a proportion of their familiarisation training. The US Navy is a good example.
I'm pretty sure that MS will not forget about weather, ATC, flight planning. I too, want those vastly improved, and am confident that they will be but I won't go slagging MS off quite yet
We've already seen some examples of enhancements to flightplanning elsewhere.
