The way people slag off FS, it make you wonder why they bother using it at all...

Dave thank you - I resemble that remark - And I dont think Im "slagging" off FS - just making legitamate criticisms of a system that
address's the "game" side of its product but neglects the realism side -
I believe many people yourself included have decried the same issues with FS that I have - weather, atc, flight planning....as I said and I stand
by it - I dont need Elephants in a flight sim - however the ability to produce a realistic flight plan from point a to point b would be a nice thing
maybe. Maybe if Mr Gates wished to make it "As real as it gets" he would be well served to visit the flight deck of his 757 occasionally

Hello dave
yeah I kinda ran amuck on the other thread about this.
calmed down abit i do love FS 04 I had 00 and 02 as well
infact all the way back to a commador 64 with a 747 FS
man the disk used to fuss about like a coffee grinder Grrrrrrr
and when the 8086 and then the 286 processors came out
that was the cats meow. So yes I love FS but alas
sometimes i feel
Suckered, setup, ...and pushed around
you understand the beef I'm sure...

I think X-plane is what you're looking for then.

For many, real flying is as much taking in scenery (an African flying safari for example) on VFR trips as it is flying an invisible highway with zero visibility beyond the windscreen for others. I think in our critisisms here, we need to gain some perspective and realise that the package is not a specialist product intended for anal armchair pilots who think they ARE pilots because the can shoot an ILS in zero visibility. How boring would that be. It is a virtual GENERAL representation of real world flight comprising - as far as possible - everything about it. That's the beauty of it - and frankly, that what makes them enough money to warrant keeping a new version of FS on the shelf every two years.
Forget about the 'elephants' as such, but rather ask yourself, given that we are able to see roaming elephants in Africa, what else might there be within the sim, that hasn't been revealed yet. According to the FS developers, quite a bit!

MS HAVE to market this under the 'Game' umbrella, because legally there needs to be clear line between FS a an entertainment product and FS as a (real world) instructional tool. Although FS hasn't officially been given the go ahead for general flight training there are many organisations who use the FS software for a proportion of their familiarisation training. The US Navy is a good example.

I'm pretty sure that MS will not forget about weather, ATC, flight planning. I too, want those vastly improved, and am confident that they will be but I won't go slagging MS off quite yet  We've already seen some examples of enhancements to flightplanning elsewhere.

Erich, Dave etc

My Apologies for not visualising the next version of MSFS as the second coming . And as a member of the aviation industry I am VERY aware of
the short comings of the program (albeit that the airline I work for has just obtained approval from the FAA to use FS9 and Lagos excellent MD80
as a systems trainer). and Im sure your correct if the elephants are the tip
of the iceberg then there may well be wonderful things in the latest version. For those who wish to go sight seeing , it will be marvellous, and for those who wish to admire the turbulence caused by a helicopters downdraft or the view from an ultralight tey will have a wonderful time
Personally if I wished to have superior graphics I would be using one of the Mac based flight sims - My intent was NOT to start a hue and cry, but to point out that Microsoft is after all a commercial concern so it behoves them to show what they feel is the best market aspects of a new product.

I merely pointed out what I feel are the items I (and by past postings here have similar feelings) that need attention.

Thank you

Leif

just looking for my lil slice of heaven
of course if Microsoft gave us Simmers what everyone of us
wanted, well, most couldn't afford the computer to run it.
It's more about getting pumped up by a company selling me something they promise me I need because it has Thus and So
but when I get it (the new software) the "So" isn't there.or it's just so so
and when a person complains about it
the answer inevitably is
:dunno: SO
surley you experienced this in some small way.
no harm I hope..........

Again, it seems to be all about eye candy, and not about a reasonable level of simulation.
It is only a game, after all. (Runs for cover, pausing only to don hard hat). :-# :-$

My apologies if I have upset anyone with my statement, it wasn't aimed at anyone in particular.

Anyway, I like eye-candy
