G.A.L. Monospar

Hello all,

I've just uploaded a model of the General Aircraft Monospar ST25 Universal to flightsim and avsim.

The G.A.L. Monospar was a series of light aircraft built by General Aircraft Ltd in the 1930's. The ST.25 Universal was one of the last versions, with a twin tail and other improvements.

The model shows a particular aircraft, c/n 95, built in 1937 as an air ambulance. It served for two years or so in England as a company demonstrator registered G-AYEF, before it was sold to the 'Zonen' salvage corps in Denmark as OY-DAZ. It served with 'Zonen' until 1950, being in storage 1943-47 because of a shortage of spares.

OY-DAZ still exists today, it is owned by the Danish National Museum of Technology in Elsinore (HelsingÃ¸r in danish). It has been on display in various places around Denmark over the years. I saw it in the 'Egeskov Veteranmuseum' when I was a boy, and again in 2005. It was hanging from the roof, so I couldn't get a look at the interior :sad: . It has now, apparently, returned to Elsinore.

I hope you like it, it is a nice and easy aircraft to fly around in!

Hi Jens

I played in the disused General Aircraft Factory as a kid.

Hanworth Airpark.

It later became the Beach Buggy Factory in the early 70's.
then after that they built some of the Pathfinder Airport Fire trucks there.
(not sure if they where built there but some work was done to them)

It wasa fun place and still had some tube fuselage frames in the late 60's when it was my Play area.
& the odd Wooden 2 blade propeller lying around on the floor.

Ugly? More ... distinctive - with great pilot visibility.

Ref Rick's reply... it's a small world, I also used to "explore" the old General Aircraft site... although I was more seventies than sixities!

I have also spent many happy hours since researching and collecting anything to do with the aerodromes and airfields in the area (Heston, Hanworth, Hounslow and the Great West Aerodrome, later to become Heathrow), Heston being my particular favourite.

If you are interested in Hanworth.... Tim Sherwood's "Coming into Land" is the one to read, with plenty of pic's and is well reserached.
