Whirlwind MK7

Post by Bill Seiko »

Hello all, I have just joined this forum.
In my youth a long time ago :-$ , I served on 824 Squadron, which had Whirlwind MK7 helicoptors and I would really like to have one in Squadron colours on Flightsim, even if I am not good(actually rubbish) at flying helicopters.
I have got one pic of MK7 in colour, most others are in black and white seeing as they were taken in !959-1961.
Hoping someone can make one please.

Hi Bill and welcome to the forum

There is only one Whirlwind that I know of for FS9 and from what I remember, it was a bit odd (eg.. when you land, you get skid marks that are nowhere near the helicopter and.. the nav lights were off.. not to mention the flight dynamics). I'm sure that if you type Whirlwind into the search engines at either avsim.com or flightsim.com ... you'll come up with (probably the same) model. Better than nothing, but nothing to write home about. Mine came off almost as quick as it came on :-#

There was a yellow (presumably RAF SAR) Whirlwind Mk10 that was sitting on my desktop until today, waiting to be (re)installed. Cant remember if it worked in FS04, I think it did. From what I remember it looked great but flew badly and struggled to get into the air at all. Then again I'm not exactly a gifted rotary wing pilot, shall we say

Anyways, welcome Bill :partyman:

Hi Bill

Welcome to the nut house

There was a Whirlwind released last year...I think.

I didn't try it and it was said to be an old one.

It's probably the one Dve and Toby are talking about.

Like Dave says a search should find it as it is there for sure

Simviation now have a 30kbs speed restriction on free downloads which may give access problems.

The same model is available from FS.COM:
wwmk10.zip

Thanks for the welcome guys, I already have that Sar Heli thanks.
I think it is the nearest I am going to get apart from Sikorsky Westland which I have got as well. It does hover better. That is as far as I have got towards flying it  .
I would like to take up the offer of a paint job unless someone is expert enough to build MK7 from scratch.
Call me an old softy who is all sentimental about my past  .
